Editor for a Space Opera Novel
Hello everyone!
As you know, I’m working on a science fiction novel, and I need some guidance. I didn’t know where the best place to post this was since it’s a two-part question, so I’m gonna put it here.
First, I want to share some background about my book for context:
Genre and organization: It’s primary genre is military science fiction/space opera with a nobledark alignment. Some other genres it would fall under are (post)cyberpunk and technothriller, with some elements of speculative biology and retrofuturism. It has three main protagonists and one lead antagonist. The story is told through their perspectives, in third-person, with a few lesser main characters also contributing views when necessary to fill in gaps. Additionally, it features several constructed languages. It is the first in a series of novels that are basically Tom Clancy meets Star Trek. Word count: ~145000
Zeitgeist/mood: Noble, moral heroes; ruthless, cruel villains; surreal, escapist worldbuilding; balance between utopian/dystopian elements; “Fourth-turning” style of motives for protagonists; non-human-centric science fiction; non-polar universe
What I’m looking for with edits: mostly developmental edits, with occasional line edits. I have a lot of unique aliens, planetary surfaces, and spacecraft described in detail, and some passages get lengthy or may convey the wrong image I’m trying to create in readers’ minds (line edits). Additionally, I need help with one arc between two characters early on that I feel was a bit choppy, as well as some advice with providing direct translations of dialogue in a conlang immediately after dialogue sequences in some instances. Lastly, it has a chiastic structure (in my opinion), but this was my first time writing a story with a two-act structure, so I just want to confirm it meets the criteria.
1) Is Reedsy a good place to find an editor for something like this? I found an editor a couple years ago on Reedsy who took interest in it (I had sent her a sample of my manuscript). Also, should I shop around for different editors on Reedsy/explain the conlang part to them when requesting their services? (Feel free to give any shoutouts 😸)
2) Would anyone here be interested in editing this book? If so, please provide me with a) an estimation of completion time for the edits, b) time before edits begin, c) cost of requested edits, d) any additional help you would need from me in order to help (lexicons, sketches, AI-renderings, etc.), and e) preferred format (docx, Google Doc, etc.).
Thank you for your help and advice,
Alex
