Looking for an editor for a fantasy novel

HI all,

Last year I self-published (and self-edited) a fantasy novelette (The Inn at the Forest’s Edge) to learn the process, but now I am planning a fantasy novel series and want it to be the best it can be. I have some funds, but they are limited. As Thomas suggests, I am willing to pay for a few samples to find the right person. I thought I would try this group first before going somewhere else. 🙂 This next step has me nervous.

Project:

A 50K fantasy novel that will be part of a short series called “Ranger’s Calling.” My target audience is male adults, but the story is clean enough for YA (imo- no cursing, some temptations, but no steam, some fighting, but no gore). The protagonist and most of the characters are male. My beta readers are both male and female, and both seem to enjoy it. My best guess at subgenre is action/adventure Fantasy (possibly heroic) with Christian worldview ideals and philosophies. It has some DnD influences with plenty of fantastical creatures. Magic is used in the story. Target launch date is November 1st, 2024.

Developmental editor:

At this point, I am seeking a developmental editor, but am hoping for someone who can do it all. I am new to this, so I am not sure how it all works. As long as it does not get too expensive. Right now I am getting feedback from my beta readers, but only my wife has finished the story so far.

Funds:

Like I stated above, I have some funds, but they are limited. I am willing to pay for sample edits.
