Affordable and Experienced Freelance Editing

Introduction:

After several years of freelance and volunteer editing, I’m now seeking to expand my editing work. I’m currently a junior in college, and hoping to be able to support myself by writing-related work such as editing after college, so I appreciate anyone willing to take a look at my rates and experience below. I’m also grateful for anyone willing to pass the word on to friends in search of an editor. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or clarifications!

Rates:

Developmental Editing (Fiction): $0.008/word
Manuscript Assessment (Fiction): $0.005/word
Copy Editing: $0.005-$0.01/word, depending on how clean your manuscript is

Projects under 5,000 words have a rate of $30/hour. My rates for developmental editing for non-fiction and line editing for both fiction and non-fiction are determined on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications:

I have over five years of experience in freelance editing, beginning with copy editing short nonfiction (e.g. articles) and progressing to developmental editing for novels. I have worked for Kloria Publishing as a copy editor since 2024, and have experience doing developmental editing for my own novels since 2022.

In the past six months, I have done developmental editing for half a dozen novels, working to hone my skills through continued experience and by incorporating feedback from clients. Since I’m still relatively inexperienced, I’m currently offering editing at a lower rate than the industry standard. If you’re looking for an affordable editor who still has years of professional experience, I would likely be a good fit for your needs.

I am most familiar with fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction, and romance, but I am comfortable editing any genre and for any target audience. (I will note that I do have certain content requirements, which are listed on my website. The concise version is that if your manuscript is PG-13 equivalent or less and doesn’t attack Christianity or traditional Christian values, it’s probably fine.)
