Inspirational Romance, Historical & Women's Fiction Developmental Editor & Writing Mentor
Hi, I'm Lee-Ann Brodeur —Developmental Editor (inspirational romance, historical & women’s fiction) & Writing Mentor
Do you write for the CBA market in inspirational romance, historical and/or women’s fiction? Are you ready to polish your short piece or full manuscript? Or do you simply need a sounding board for your current project or career path?
I’d love to walk this writing journey with you.
Here's how I can help:
One-on-One Mentorship ($ dependent on number of sessions) — For Christian writers of clean and inspirational fiction who want focused support for their writing journey. Mentorship sessions are designed to help you work through craft questions, manuscript issues, and career direction with clarity, encouragement, and honest feedback. Writers can book one session or three sessions at a time.
What to expect: We’ll meet online for one (or three) focused one hour session(s) and talk through one key issue so you leave with clarity and direction.
Manuscript Assessment ($ dependent on length) — A manuscript assessment gives you an overview of your story’s strengths, areas that need attention, and practical next steps for revision. I look at elements such as story structure, character development, pacing, tension, and overall clarity so you can move forward with focus and confidence. You’ll receive a thorough editorial letter with observations and revision guidance to help you prayerfully and practically consider your next steps.
What to expect: You’ll receive an editorial letter outlining strengths, concerns, and suggested next steps for revision.
Developmental Editing ($0.03/word) — A developmental edit looks at the heart of your completed manuscript—what’s working, what’s missing, and how to strengthen the story’s structure, character arc, tension, pacing, and emotional payoff. My goal is to come alongside you with thoughtful feedback that helps you revise with clarity and confidence. Select shorter fiction projects, such as reader magnets or novellas, are welcome.
What to expect: You’ll receive a marked manuscript and a detailed editorial letter with big-picture feedback and revision guidance.
I’m a BIG PICTURE/STORY STRUCTURE EDITOR (sometimes referred to as Content Edits, Substantive Edits or Developmental Edits). I don’t work with grammar, clarity of language (copy edits or line edits), or correct errors in textual and visual elements in your final format before printing (proofreading).
A little about me: I'm a published author (small press) and an editor-in-training. I’m a member of The Christian PEN, Editors Canada (Student Affiliate), as well as Novel Academy, ACFW, FHLCW and The Word Guild (Canada). My training includes contest judging, critique groups, and coursework from The PEN Institute. I'm currently working toward completion of the Professional Editing Standards Certificate from Queen’s University. My rates are based on EFA/PEN industry standards, and since I have less than two years of paid experience, they generally fall at the bottom end of the rate scale.
Note: I’m a strong advocate of The Story Equation, by Susan May Warren and will refer to this method within my feedback. I’m also familiar with Romancing the Beat and Save the Cat Writes a Novel – so if that’s more your cup of tea, we can chat using those references.
