Rent my brain (for copyediting, proofreading, evaluations, or author questions)

In Book Launch Blueprint office hours, Thomas announced that I am hirable as an editor and that my brain is for rent. (Thanks, Thomas.) He also said I was on the job board, which made me realize I wasn’t. But I am now. :)

Services

  • Book evaluations (readthrough of entire manuscript, notes on strengths and weaknesses and recommendations for next steps)—$100 per 20,000 words

    • If you get an evaluation from me and then choose to proceed with my editing services, half of the evaluation fee will be applied to the cost of your edit.

  • Copyediting (fixes grammar, punctuation, style, clarity, etc.)—$0.02–$0.03 per word

  • Proofreading (final step before publication, checks for any typos that slipped through formatting)—$0.01 per word

These are my standard rates, but I assess rates on a per-client basis and am willing to discuss options for tight budgets.

I have more services listed on my website at https://booksbyjayna.com/editing, but these three areas are where I’m focusing most of my attention right now. I don’t offer developmental editing, but I can help you find a developmental editor if that’s what you need.

Genres

I work with both fiction and nonfiction, primarily Christian authors writing from a traditional evangelical standpoint.

My favorite genres are historical fiction, contemporary fiction, and light suspense or adventure fiction.

I don’t work with speculative fiction (although I can help you find an editor if that’s your genre), horror, highly violent suspense/thriller, or anything that’s not PG-13 or cleaner. I also don’t have experience with children’s books, poetry, or memoir.

I’m not officially an author assistant at this point, but if you have a question about some part of your author process, whether it’s getting your newsletter set up, finding an editor, creating a launch team application, or something in between, feel free to direct message me here on AuthorMedia.social, and I’ll see if I can help you, either with a quick answer or a longer consultation.

Hope this helps someone, and please let me know if you have questions. I’m always happy to discuss a project even if it’s only to help you find someone else who will be the right fit for your team.
