“If you heard about the court case and allegations about Amazon's messed up (to put it mildly) bidding for ads that may have affected YOU without you ever knowing, here is a post from Janet Margot on the whole thing.

She used to work at Amazon. Has great knowledge of the system. (And is very lovely to work with.) I appreciate her thoughts.

As an aside, I am very ... neutral about the company. They very much made the landscape we know today of indie publishing possible. They also are a massive company and we do not matter to them. Full stop. Books aren't the main business. Indies can and do make a LOT, but I doubt it touches the real income they get other places. Sometimes they do things that are helpful to us, sometimes they don't.

End of the day, they're a company that does retails and billions; not a bookseller who cares about books or authors, so I don't see the need to bash or badmouth the way some do or to avoid them altogether.

I sell a lot of books there. How they work is how they work, so I temper my expectations accordingly and don't take it personally or get emotionally upset by them being exactly who they've told us they are.

And when big things like this happen, I pay attention and wait to see what will come of it. That's just MY two cents on it.”
