From Passion to Print: How to Run an Independent Publishing Company

Traditional publishers usually provide authors with an editor, cover designer, but if you're independently published, you oversee all the above. You can do each task yourself as a self-publisher, or you can hire independent contractors and create your own independent publishing company.

When you create your own company, you get to choose who edits your book and hire the best cover designer you can afford. You also control how your book is marketed and sold, and you get access to the data so you can see what's working and what isn't.

Starting a publishing company may sound overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be.

In this week's episode, I interviewed Jynafer Yanez, who walked us through the process of starting and running an independent publishing company.

She and her husband publish books through their independent company, Archimedes Books. Their books have sold a million copies and have been translated for foreign markets and adapted for graphic novels and film.

You'll learn

  • How your independent publishing company compares to publishing with a small house

  • How to name your company

  • How to maintain a publishing cadence

  • How Jynafer and her husband Jonathan released 12 books per year

If you're considering starting your own publishing company for your indie-published books, this episode will help you determine what to do next. Drop your comments and questions below or Read more…
