Jayna’s December goal
The first week of December was a wash, but it gave me some time to think about what needs to happen this month. As a result, I’m not setting the grand goal I thought I was going to.
Instead, I’m setting a goal of just 300 words of fiction per day, six days a week. This should still give me 5K words this month, and usually once I’ve written the first 300 words for the day, it’s easy to keep going.
The goal here is to get into a steady habit of daily writing but also remind myself that writing is fun. I’ve lost that in the midst of stressing over getting the next book done, and although we all have to do things that aren’t fun, I write better when my stories are something I genuinely want to share instead of something I have to make myself churn out. So this month, if I want to jump ahead and fiddle with a climax idea, I’ll do it. If I want to make my hero do something heroic just for the sake of it, I’ll do it. I can fix it later. So there.
