Bad idea?

After much thesaurus-searching, I came up with the perfect title for my historical romance. Only trouble is, there’s a book by that title released March 2023 in a different genre with only 2 reviews and 5 likes. I’m thinking of using it anyway, BUT here are my questions:

  1. Is that a mean thing to do? I doubt it would hurt her sales because most books do their best in the year of publication, so I probably wouldn’t really be competing.

  2. If it isn’t mean, would readers be confused if they lsaw both our books on Amazon? I would make sure our covers are very different, and their release dates would be at least 15 months apart. (If I don’t come up with a title soon, it will be longer!)

My other favorite title was too hard to say: Our Fateful Secrets. I loved that one, but it could easily be confused with ‘faithful” or even “fatal.” Woe is me!

Any help would be appreciated.
