Demise of Google Podcasts

Here’s another lesson in owning your email list.

Since April 2024, users in the US can no longer listen to podcasts in Google Podcasts. After June 24, 2024, this will be the case for all users in all regions. However, we have the option to move our podcast to YouTube.

I had a couple hundred subscribers on Google podcasts. So I submitted my podcast to Youtube. That process was fairly straightforward. But I lost all my google podcasts subscribers and am starting over with 2 subscribers on Youtube. (Hopefully listeners have re-subscribed on other platforms. )

BUT Youtube marked all except the most recent 30 of my podcasts “Private”, meaning no one can see them without knowing the link. I am now in the process of working through the remaining 400 and making them visible to everyone.

If you podcast, you might want to check your Youtube feed to make sure your old shows are visible.

The easiest way to move to Youtube is through Google podcast manager, but on July 30, 2024, Google Podcasts Manager will no longer be available.
