Is hiring a professional interviewer worth it?

As an author trying to promote myself, something I’ve seen is authors hiring a professional interviewer to create a video/audio interview about their books.

However, he does not promote the video himself beyond uploading it on his own account to youtube, iTunes, etc. He charges around $250-300. He gives you right to the final MP4 of the interview.

My question is, has anyone promoted themselves this way and has it paid off at all?
