Kickstarter Goal for 1st MG Book?

Hey everyone!

I listened to Thomas’s episodes on Kickstarter, but the ones I found are from a couple years ago. All in info is relevant, but I know Kickstarter has had some recent changes.

I’m setting up a Kickstarter campaign (it has a preview page but not a pre-launch page yet—long story) for my series, and it was originally going to have a $5000 goal to cover the swag and books and fees as well as extra marketing costs for the series. But upon hearing that’s very high, I lowered it to $2000.

Is $2000 more reasonable to start a campaign for a brand new MG fantasy series, and then add stretch goals if it gets fully funded in time?

(Also, an author I know is thinking about making a special anniversary edition of the first book in her series and is considering doing a Kickstarter for it with a $1000 goal—is $1000 for an anniversary edition a reasonable goal, too?)
