My own platform

Hi everyone! I’m new here though I’ve been listening to Thomas’s channel for some time and —- thank you so much for all your insight! So I wanted to share with you my ‘journey’ with author platform FWIW. I wrote 2 out of the 3 books of a syfy trilogy yet unpublished. In preparation for this publication I decided to build a platform. I investigated the powers that be—notably substack and patreon (also a short experiment with royal road/whattpad). I know these work for some people, but I felt like it was a very crowded marketplace and at the end all of them look alike, my USP gets lost in the noise. Plus it’s not my real estate so I don’t actually own these communities. I decided then to throw some of my chapters on reddit and long and behold within 48 hours 5k views! (at least according to their metrics).

So I rolled out up my sleeves and build my own website for The Correction trilogy, where I explain what this book is about, discuss it, promote my NL (already a few 100’s subs), and serialize the book very slowly (will eventually put a paywall). There is also a ‘mysterious’ section about myself in keeping with the syfy vibe.

I deliberated a lot whether to make a traditional author site. At the end I found it boring to have a domain on my name (though I bought it just in case), look at my silly photo and read again my bio which sounds like everyone else. It’s about the story, not me.

Anyway, FWIW here is the website in case you are interested, feel free to give feedback etc. And thank you again Thomas for all that you do!
