Selling Direct?
After the episode on Shopify, I closed my direct sales store. My LLC is hosted in WA. It seems that if I didn’t have an LLC, state sales tax wouldn’t be a problem.
But as i was looking at other states—TX and MN for example— any online business there must collect and pay sales tax. Meaning, not only nexus state but also all states where I do business.
In WA, each county has a different sales tax amount. Managing this seems overwhelming.
So of course I closed my store—not getting enough business yet to warrant applying for state tax collection license in this/these states.
So of course there are services that will take care of the state taxes. And yet the monthly fees for those are prohibative at this point.
So my question is: if you are selling direct, what is your state and you sales tax decision and do your sales allow the fees? I can’t understand how a small indie publisher can sell direct.
