Sometimes You Just Have to Tell Them!
Hey y’all!! Happy weekend💜☀️
So what’s a girl to do when she’s struggling to get her books noticed, 15 out of her 120 fans actually bought the books, and she’s still begging for Amazon ratings to hit that critical 10th rating?? What’s she to do when her target audience isn’t easily spotted in the wild?
Why, she goes to Google (yes I’m a Gen Zer who lives and dies by the Google 🤣) and asks for homeschool co-ops in Tennessee.
And then asks for homeschool co-ops in Kentucky.
Then in Georgia.
Then in Florida….
On and on, I’ve been searching a state a day for Christian homeschool co-ops to email and just politely tell them that I am a homeschool graduate and write books for homeschoolers to help fix the struggle we face in finding appropriate books for these kids.
AND IT’S WORKING!!
“How?” That’s probably what you’re wanting to know now. “How well does it work? How often?”
Not well and not often, but two out of three replies I’ve gotten (out of probably a hundred or more emails I’ve sent) have resulted in a book sale!! (The one reply that did not was a co-op informing me they’re actually secular and couldn’t promote my books, but they were very kind about it and wished me well.)
The sheer fact it’s worked at all, even if it’s such itty bitty success in the grand scheme of things thus far, just made me so excited, I had to come share.
If you’re having trouble finding your target audience but know they’re out there, sometimes the best thing—the only thing—to do is to google where the heck they’re at and then straight up tell them who you are and that you have something great and Christ-glorifying to offer them! The worst that can happen is they say no. (Or block your email if they think it’s a spam account, but I’m not spamming the same people, so that hasn’t happened. 🤣) Often what’ll happen is you simply don’t receive an answer or a sale.
But when you sell a book? Booyah. 😎
