Target the Parents or Kids?
I have a question for the children's writers out there. Especially middle grade fiction writers. Do you write for the child, and then market to the parents? I write Middle Grade humorous action/adventure stories for boys age 12. But I imagine their parents (and school librarians) would be the ones finding the website, getting the newsletters, etc. Should my email newsletter be addressed to the adults who are looking for good books for their kids to read? One of my passions is encouraging parents to read to their kids. I was thinking of combining this with my own story writing, so that my newsletter will have tips and encouragements to keep reading to your kids, even when life is busy and distracting, research about the power of reading to your kids etc. I can give them my own short stories and recommendations for other authors. Does this sound like a good approach?
