Try a giveaway!

I am a newbie historical/biblical fiction author, having launched the first book in my series set in Petra/Nabataea. After listening to Thomas’s podcast interview with Kelly Jo Wilson, I thought, “Sounds like fun!” So last Saturday I launched my first foray into using giveaways for building my email list.

I’m using the free version of King Sumo. It was incredibly easy to set up, and looks great. The giveaway runs for three weeks, ending the last day of August. We’ll see how it does when the dust settles.

Although I’m just a debut author, I managed to get a big-name biblical fiction author (Mesu Andrews) on board, as well as another biblical fiction author (Susan Macias). The three of us are offering a signed copy each of our novels. But I believe one of the big draws will be all of the other historically significant artifacts and items I am offering. The giveaway has 11 items total.

Although I have yet to see the outcome of this effort, I would encourage you to think creatively and try putting together a very attractive set of items that would appeal specifically to your audience. For me, the process was a very fun opportunity to put myself in the place of one of my readers, to think about what might appeal to them in an unexpected and creative way.
