Vault Strategy (Trying to test it?)

I am currently taking a break from larger projects as I edit my last novel and writing the first in a triology of novellas. Just a two week drafting process, and so far it has been a tone of fun.

One of the things that I am working on establishing is a system for using the books that I write but don’t publish every year. For instance, I aim to write roughly 1 full novel (roughly 80-120k words) a quarter.

But I don’t want to publish four books a year, I simply don’t have the bandwidth to do a full launch four times every single year.

However I do love the value of serialization and I have dedicated a massive chunk of time to studying it and prepping myself and my career to integrate it into my process.

So the solution that I have found is that (human sourced em dash, lol)—if I am writing standalone and series books for my indie and trad career, with the commitment and intention of publishing them with as much polish and professionalism as possible—then some books will, while still being high quality and edited, left over year after year.

My current plan is to create a serialization vault: a system that would let me take those left over novels and publish them on royal road, with the eventual hope of turning them into a secondary monetary stream through Patreon/ream.

Another intention of this system would be slowly dripping those finished books out after they have been serialized, eventually brining them to KU. This would be, hopefully, to also make the number of weeks and months between launches smaller.

Also side tangent: I did just ask Chris Fox what he thought was the optimal time between amazon book launches… he said 1 week. And I said… nope, not doing that! Algorithmically it makes sense, but I simply can’t and won’t do that. So for now, and the foreseeable future until I die, it shall be at least 2 books out per year.

So to test this system out I am writing a Novella as a betweensie project while I outline Q2’s novel.

Here’s a quick blurb for that novella, optimized by the patron toolbox, of course.

BLURB:
He killed a god.
Now they want him to do it again.

In a world where gods rule through fear and devotion, one man stands accused of the impossible—and the unforgivable. Shackled before a tribunal that would see him executed, Honor offers no defense.

Only the truth.

But truth is a dangerous thing.

Because the god he “killed” was not what the world believes. And the war now rising around them was set in motion long before his capture. As rebellion spreads and ancient powers stir, Honor is bound by an oath that will either break the gods… or burn him alive from within.

He is not a hero.
He is not innocent.
And before this is over, the world will learn the cost of both.

END OF BLURB

My plan is to create a Kit landing page with the cover and some stuff about the book etc with the intention of trying to gather interest in the launch while I try to get other Royal road author ready to help silly me launch the book.

What are your thoughts on this part of the process? How would you go about creating that segment of your platform? Thank you guys so much ahead of time. This is truly the best community for authors who genuinely care and are committed to the craft of writing and publishing. Blessings!
