What are the Kit newsletter sponsorships? Has anyone tried them?

Kit (aka ConvertKit) set me three offers this week from people who want to sponsor my newsletter.

Is this something new they are doing? Does anyone know how it works? If you tried it what was your experience like?

The only announcement I could find is this: https://updates.kit.com/item/15394
