When to apologize to newsletter subscribers?

So, I totally dropped the ball on sending out my November newsletter. (It’s always the last Friday of the month—I sent it a week early once, and it’s been off by a day, but… never by a week and a half.) I was at a dear friend’s wedding the weekend it should have gone out, which is why I didn’t get it sent, and I’ve also have some difficult things going on in my personal life (in addition to the fact that I’m taking 20 college credits and it’s almost finals…) that have made it really hard to stay on top of things.

I’m at the point where I think I should just do a combined November/December newsletter, but I’m not sure if I should apologize to my subscribers for missing the November one. (I’m from Minnesota, so… I apologize for everything.) Maybe it’s better to not draw attention to the fact at all? I just feel bad for not following through on my stated email frequency.

If I do apologize/offer some explanation, I think the wedding is a helpful reason (and people will understand that). My subscribers also know I’m a college student (I share a decent amount about school in my newsletter), so should I mention that as well? And finally, I’m not comfortable sharing the personal life things at this point (some positive, some negative, it’s just a privacy thing), so I’m not sure if it’s worth mentioning, “hey, there have been some crazy things going on lately, I’d appreciate your prayers.”

If it helps for context, I have a fairly tightknit group of subscribers, many of whom know me personally, so I’m guessing a lot of them noticing the missing November newsletter, and the majority would be interested in knowing about things like me traveling to a friend’s wedding… I’m just not sure how much of an apology/explanation is necessary versus “wow, November got busy! You may have noticed a missing newsletter, so I decided to just to a combined one…” etc.
