Why I dislike KIT
If you’re thinking of moving from MailerLite to KIT, I beg you to reconsider.
I was told they’d help you transfer your automations. Not true. It’s a paid service.
I was told the automations are better. Not very true. Though the appearance of the automations is nicer, it’s basically the same thing.
Related, A date-based automation I had (birthday gift) was invalidated because KIT does not allow for date-based triggers.
👉 The most frustrating part: There is no ability (on the regular plan) to sort or target subscribers by engagement (things like open rate or opened last five emails), which is a free part of the MailerLite system.
I lost hundreds of valid subscribers, and regular openers!, by trusting “their algorithm” to identify and target the cold subscribers. Dumb and clunky.
In short, I am incredibly regretful of ‘splurging” to move to KIT a year and a half ago. The features I gained are not worth the headache and frustration.
One benefit that is more robust than MailerLite is the customer service of KIT, but the irony is of course I didn’t need so much help with MailerLite. Another feature is tagging, which I do use, but probably not the right way. You can auto-tag subscribers BEFORE THE FACT to identify certain behaviors by grouping, or hunt them down as specific link clickers email-by-email. But besides this, subscriber behavior is behind the PRO paywall (upgrade for an extra $400/year). You CAN see behavior subscriber by subscriber. When you select a subscriber it lists the emails they received and if they opened or clicked.
My email provider setup: I have a handful of different methods of onboarding (several reader magnets/ forms/ quizzes). Each of them has a starting automation and these taper into a general onboarding/welcome sequence. It’s “prettier” the way KIT has it set up, but the absence of engagement statistics is not worth this benefit.
I’ve been with KIT since January of 2025. It’s been frustrating since day one and heartbreaking when I lost the wrong subscribers and still didn’t gain in my open rate stats.
I am considering moving to another provider (maybe back to MailerLite), but the hassle of changing and setting up automations again (and losing subscriber statistics) is a huge hurdle to get over.
