Best Option For Full Color Printing?

What is the best option for self-publishing a full color book?

I’m considering doing a graphic novel, but the margins on full color printing are harsh.

Has anyone gone through the process of printing on full color premium paper and found a cost effective self-publishing solution?

Here is the research I’ve done so far:

I asked AI to compare Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, and Lulu and found that for books priced over $10:

  • KDP takes 60%

  • Ingram takes 55%

  • Lulu takes 50%

However, Amazon takes a percentage of all sales on its site, so even if you sell through Ingram or Lulu, Amazon still takes a percentage of sales.

Yet, when it comes to printing costs, for a 100-page premium color book, AI tells me that the printing cost per book is:

  • KDP: $4.45

  • Ingram: $5.87

  • Lulu: $7.09

Which means that to make $5 profit per book, I have to price it at:

  • KDP: $25.75

  • Ingram: $24.16

  • Lulu: $24.18

However, at a lower page count of 30 pages the printing costs and pricing costs look like this:

  • Amazon KDP $2.04 / $17.60

  • IngramSpark $4.07 / $20.16

  • Lulu $5.10 / $20.20

So for shorter and lower priced books, Amazon KDP wins out.

To make matters more confusing, I’ve heard that Lulu is the best for color print quality.

Note: Some of these numbers could be off, because I was letting AI do all the research and math, so if you know better, correct me.

It seems like the best option is Amazon on Amazon and shorter/lower-priced books and Ingram/Lulu is the way to go all other platforms.

But if someone has experience here or knows an option I haven’t considered, let me know.
