Feedback for Synopsis (for press kit)
Hello everyone,
I’m trying to put together a press kit, which will include a short synopsis of my book. Looking for feedback on these three options. Your feedback is SO appreciated!
1. When Shannon O’Brien set off on a one-way journey across South America, she wasn’t running—she was searching. For adventure. For connection. For a life that felt richer and more expansive than the one she'd been told to want. She was searching for herself—and her place in a world that felt both wide open and wildly uncertain.
What she found were moments that cracked her open: getting lost in Peru’s Colca Canyon without food or water, rescuing an injured animal in the Bolivian jungle, navigating chaotic Cambodian hospitals, and falling for someone just as untethered as she was.
Told with sharp insight and vivid, immersive detail, this memoir travels through crowded night buses, dusty border towns, and misty Himalayan peaks. But at its heart, it’s a story of learning to listen to your gut when it whispers instead of screams. Through messy love, fierce friendship, and the vast loneliness of long-term solo travel, Shannon maps the emotional terrain of what it means to stay open, to trust the pull of the unknown, and to let each experience shape who you’re becoming.
Witty, wise, and unflinchingly honest, Stray: Breaking Free, Falling Hard and Growing Stronger is for anyone who’s ever wondered what might happen if they let go of the plan and trusted the road instead.

2. When Shannon O’Brien set off on a one-way journey across South America, she wasn’t running—she was searching. For adventure. For connection. For a life beyond the quiet expectations of the world she’d grown up in. What awaited her was more than breathtaking landscapes and foreign cities—it was a reckoning with herself.
Lost for days in the depths of Peru's Colca Canyon, thrown into unfamiliar cultures and chaotic hospitals, and pulled into unpredictable romances, Shannon’s journey was as harrowing as it was transformative. With every mile, she faced the challenge of surrendering control and trusting a path that was anything but certain.
Told with unflinching honesty and gripping detail, this memoir explores the hard-won lessons of travel, heartbreak, and the fierce resolve it takes to find a life that truly belongs to you. Shannon’s journey reminds us that the road to freedom is often winding, but the destination is always worth the struggle.

3.) For Shannon O’Brien, the journey across five continents became less about the places she saw, and more about the woman she had to become to keep moving forward.
From remote jungles to vibrant cities, her memoir captures the grit and grace of learning to stand alone—and the surprising places where home can be found. Each experience strips away certainties and reveals unexpected lessons about love, loss and the search for belonging in a world that never stops shifting.
Told with vivid detail and honest reflection, this is a soul-stirring story for anyone who’s ever felt restless, stuck, or ready to rewrite their own story. It speaks to the ones willing to trade comfort for a deeper kind of freedom, to break free and find meaning far beyond the familiar.
With humor, heart, and raw vulnerability, Shannon’s journey reminds us that the road to freedom is often winding, the lessons sometimes brutal, and the discoveries always transformative. This is a memoir of heartbreak, healing, and the fierce courage it takes to keep moving, to trust yourself, and to embrace the unpredictable journey of becoming.
