Hardcover option for debut novel - yay or nay?
Is it pretty standard and/or “Thomas-recommended” to include a hardcover option along with ebook, paperback, and audiobook when self-publishing? Any reason I shouldn’t do so?
It’ll be an extra charge for my cover designer to adjust the cover to case wrap specs, which I don’t mind; just want to make sure it makes sense to do. For context, I’ll be releasing on KDP (and want to leave the door open for wider distribution in the future).
EDIT: Updating with the exact questions my cover designer had for me:
For the hardcover, are you doing a casewrap through KDP? And using the same trim size, paper type, and interior layout (page count)?
I’m not sure what the “right” answers to these questions are supposed to be. If going through KDP, which I am, is a casewrap always the way anyway? (I am not wanting a dust jacket, unless advised otherwise - I imagine that is another extra upcharge to create a different design). Is it fine to use the same trim size or page count as my paperback, or will that cause problems? I’ve already signed off on my typesetter and received all files from her.
