How many typos is acceptable?
So, I hired an editor for proofreading - the final stop before my book goes to cover and layout. The editing was to be done in two passes, 1) the proofreading editor makes their edits then I accept changes and add any of my edits/changes. Then 2) the editor goes back over things one more time and gives me a PDF ready for a layout specialist to turn it into a book.
I am about to give my book back to the proofreader /editor for the final step but I am concerned. By listening to the book out loud, I have found about a dozen typos that she missed in a 65k word count book. Things like “heat” instead of “heart,” missing articles (no “a” or “the”) and other errors. Worse yet, I still have a few more chapters to listen to - so there could be more errors.
When she sent the document to me with her edits she said “this should basically be ready to go.” Well the book didn’t seem ready to go.
thoughts? What would you do? Hire someone else? I am being too uptight? Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt
