I know Thomas likes audiobooks but…
While it’s a growing category, I highly doubt I will even make enough with a whole book launch to cover the $1000+ it would cost to create an audiobook. Let alone an audiobook make back the money when the royalty per book is only a few dollars.
I know royalty shares with a producer is an option, but quality tends to go down. And if I do it, I want to do it well. AI is also an option, though still pricy. But Thomas’s point in his recent podcast was using human narrators to prove the book is written by a human.
Anyway, I’m trying to decide if seriously researching audiobook production is actually going to be worthwhile financially or if it just looks better (and if my limited budget is better spent on editing book 2 of my series and leave audiobooks until I make a little more on a regular basis…)
Is anyone else in this boat and how have you dealt with it?
