Optimal page count for publishing vs reader expectations
I know Thomas has mentioned that publishing a book in the 200-250 page range is optimal for making the most money per copy. However, I’m writing YA dystopia which generally ranges 350-550 pages. I’m wondering if reader expectations will turn them off of a slimmer novel even if the word count is comparable to other YA. Because I want my book to look like the solid story that it is. Any thoughts or observations, from a reader or author pov?
