Prologue's

Hi everyone, I’m so looking forward to the conference in Jan. I am brand new at fiction writing so I was very encouraged by the comment to attend at least a year before you need it.

I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can about the craft and principles of writing great fiction. However, I’ve yet to read anything about the pros & cons of having a prologue. While I get the great advice about not dumping backstory into the beginning, I’m now noticing several fiction books I’ve purchased and like have prologues.

Can someone point me to commentary/podcast on this?
