Self publishing and distribution

I have only used KDP so far with five books. Looking at all the ads for books.by. it looks profitable only if you charge high prices for your books. Then it would seem you need to do a click testing system for promotion.

Has anyone gone this route and do have any input before I make the investment of time and money?
