ELABORATE SCAM

Fellow authors, be aware. I just experienced an elaborate scam. It started when I heard from an award-winning British author, who emailed me to applaud my YA Christian fiction. His email included a link to his impressive website. He then referred me to his literary agent, applauding my work to her, copying me — a well known agent who represents top Christian authors you know.

This agent asked to see a sample of my work — already published but I’m writing the screenplay now, which she expressed possible future interest in. After a day she then suggested I shore up a few things (I agree, had been praying for such help) and she sent me a link to someone she recommended. This “book specialist” the agent recommended sent a very professional proposal, although a bit pricey, and answered all my questions. But in this something didn’t feel right. All the emails I received were from gmail accounts and at the end of the day the specialist wanted to get into my Amazon account “to get started on her work for me” after I made a down payment. There were other red flags too. All of this to say, scammers are getting more sophisticated and I believe this whole thing was a hoax. I reached out to Thomas for his opinion. He also saw a red flag. Don’t get sucked in like I did. Onward. Lesson learned. Be wise and discerning in these times. God is good!
