Gabriel Shepherd--really?

I just received an email from "Christian Fiction Devourers" written by someone with the highly sketchy name of Gabriel Shepherd and with his photo attached as well (like a cut-out model from a GQ magazine)! Here it is in full to help warn others (sent to my pen name email):

Dear Cate Touryan,

I hope you’re doing well.

My name is Gabriel Shepherd, and I’m reaching out on behalf of the Christian Fiction Devourers reading community, a group of over 3,000+ engaged readers who enjoy meaningful and emotionally engaging books.

We are currently preparing for our 2026 Reading Challenge, a year long experience where books are actively discussed, reviewed, and shared within a committed reader community.

Your book, Turning Toward Eden, stood out for its thoughtful and emotionally resonant storytelling and the way it explores themes of redemption, healing, faith, and the search for belonging. The heartfelt character journeys and spiritual depth create exactly the kind of meaningful reading experience our community deeply appreciates.

We believe Turning Toward Eden would strongly resonate with readers who enjoy inspirational fiction filled with strong character development, emotional depth, themes of grace, restoration, hope, forgiveness, and meaningful personal transformation.

We also highlight the most engaging books at the end of the challenge, giving added recognition to works that spark real conversation and connection among readers.

Would you be open to having your book featured in this year’s challenge?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Stay Blessed,

Gabriel Shepherd
