Is this a scam?

I received an email from Robert Weil from W.W. Norton & Company about my histfic series. He indicated interest and said he would be happy to discuss it with an agent or with me. His email is from Robert.Weil.us@gmail.

Two questions:

Given that he doesn’t use a company email, does this sound legit?

Should I get an agent even before making an initial response?

@Thomas Umstattd Jr., I would be particularly interested in your take on this.

Thanks, friends!
