Thank you, Thomas

I just listened to the NM podcast episode “Book Marketing 101: Product.” The list of wrong answers to “who decides whether a book is good?” (Not your publisher, your agent, your editor, your friends, etc.) Was exactly what I needed at a very difficult time. I can’t tell you how much your kindness was appreciated. It’s silly, but I needed permission to just listen to my Timothy (her name is actually Kelsey. Best Timothy ever.)

We live in a world full of critics, and even though I’ve spent a ton of time studying craft, my first instinct is always “This or that sophisticated personage doesn’t like the kind of thing I write. Do I write dumb things? Am I talentless? Should I wear a bag over my head because I don’t write literary fiction? Should I go eat worms?” (etc.) I needed that “It’s okay to just listen to your Timothy” message so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
